Into The Black Tides Tuesdays: Pirates

Ahoy, my merciless mateys! Arrrr you ready for week 10 of our Into the Black Tides Tuesdays? Prepare to hoist those anchors and set sail for another edition – pirate slang and all! Well, landlubbers, I can see ye can barely contain yer excitement. So, let’s dive right in!

This week, we’re talking about – you guessed it – Pirates! We’ll be discussing, not only the roles that they serve within the Otherworlds universe, but the different factions and abilities that come along with playing these plundering baddies.

Three Sheets to the Wind

Otherworlds pirates aren’t much different from your average ocean dwelling, treasure plundering, salty sea dogs. They love drinkin’, swearin’, and claiming valuables as their own – though, not necessarily in that order! However, where Otherworlds pirates differ, is in the mediums in which they may travel and conquer. They can move by sea, sand, air, or for those fateful few, space. Each faction brings their own unique twists to the traditional pirate lore.

But be warned, the Blackwater Pirates that call the abysmal seas of Transel home, are not to be trifled with. They do unspeakable things to outsiders that wander so ignorantly into their domain. Other than that, you really have nothing to worry about when coming face to face with a pirate! You may even be lucky enough to start your own crew and carve your name through the seas as captain. I hope you aren’t prone to getting sea sick! Maybe bring a baggie, just in case.

Full Sail Ahead!

Pirates also come with an assortment of abilities – from navigating various ships, to using pirate weaponry like flintlocks and blunderbusses. There are even a few that have been known to strike sheer terror in the hearts of their foes with just a glance. If you’re ever unfortunate enough to come across a Dread Pirate, well… just hope that you don’t. As a pirate, you’ll also become rather adept at sniffing out and stealing valuable objects. It’s like a sixth sense, really; except, instead of seeing dead people, you can sense nearby treasure.

Don’t forget that every ship needs a crew. That’s right, not everybody can be the captain – it’s unfortunate, I know. So make sure that when you’re ready to set sail, you’ve got a well-balanced crew to help run the ship. It’d be a tragedy to be hundreds of miles from the nearest port and suddenly realize that there’s no mess steward to cook your meals, or no quartermaster to repair that hull. Remember, a captain is only as good as the crew that he keeps. Besides, if someone isn’t working out, it’s totally fine to make them walk the plank. That’s what captains are for. Just make sure it’s a sure death. You don’t want someone coming back with a vengeance later on, do you?
