Cheers, love! The cavalry's here!
Welcome kiddo's to my new series of where I take your favorite characters and create them using the Otherworlds Roleplaying Game system! Why?
Well, the answer is two fold
One, is so I can test the game's flexibility and it helps me highlight certain aspects of the character creation I haven't seen before. After all, Otherworlds bolsters a really hefty character creation system.
Two, I want to show to you, just how awesome the character creation system is. With the character creation rules being available here, you'll be free to create your custom adventurers, so this is showing you what you'll be able to do!
So first things first
We start with stats, and for this series I'm going with the standard stats of 1,2,3,4,5,6 and applying them to the six attributes in Otherworlds (Strength, Dexterity, Toughness, Intelligence, Wisdom, Resolve).
I built Tracer to have her Dexterity be the highest, this should be obvious why. Tracer is known for being frail, but quick, and easy to dodge incoming attacks, avoiding them with ease.
For her second highest, I went with Intelligence, since that pairs nicely with her Engineering and Technology proficiency.
As for her race, it's obvious, human! I chose the lancen sub-race to give her a boost to her technology proficiency and as I nice bonus, the appearance matches!
I won't lie
I was puzzled at first at how to choose her class. Tracer is definitely a unique character, so I enjoyed the challenge, but thought I'd hit a wall here. After some quick research, I saw that she was categorized as an “Assassin” in Heroes of the Storm. An unconventional assassin for sure, but I could see it. She moves quickly in and out of combat, “bursting” her enemies down in a flash. However, another major part of her character is her movement and ability to blink across the map. Because of this, I dual classed her, giving her access to the “Arcane,” skill tree, so she could get some of her signature skills. Her Skill Tree is comprised of: Arcane, Assassination, and Deception.
Back to Background
Again, I had to do some research on what Tracer's background story was, and it turns out she used to be a fearless pilot! How awesome, we actually have the “Pilot” background available in Otherworlds, so this was a perfect fit!
We're able to have Tracer's signature weapons by swapping out the Assassin's sniper rifle and knife for two pistols and pay the 600 GL extra to convert them into energy weapons. Whatever Gild is leftover, we can pick up some Leech, Ricochet, and Tracer rounds!
So, while character creation has always created interesting characters in Otherworlds, I don't believe I've ever seen an assassin take “Asssassinate” at level 13, but it's completely doable within the rules of the game, so that's what I thought was best with Tracer here.
At level 1, we're giving Tracer “Daring Dash,” so her speed is increased and she's able to dash throughout the battlefield quickly. Action Plan, Stride, and Free Runner, all will increase her ability to maneuver throughout crowded areas, with ease. At level 5, she'll obtain her signature “Blink” skill from the arcane tree.
Really, I could go on and on about how well these skill match up for Tracer. I mean come on?! Haste, Assassin's Dodge, Delay, Zig-Zag, The Slip, Luck, the list goes on! Tracer will able to manipulate time to hasten herself and slow down others (because she's just that fast!), and because of “The Slip” and “Luck,” she'll be able to get herself out of sticky situations.
I Know What You Might Be Thinking...Maybe?
I know at least for me, I was a bit worried at first that Tracer couldn't obtain her signature “Blink” skill until level 5. I then realized, “no wait, this is perfect!” The heroes journey consist of the young hero growing and maturing, honing their skills to become better.
At level 5, is when she starts to develop to the Tracer that we know and love, but prior to that, that's where a lot of the meat gets to happen. That's where she starts learning how to develop her skills, and with the new Invocation mechanic I'm working on, she'll even be able to tap into that a bit before acquiring it at level 5!
This also gives me the great idea, that should you do an Overwatch themed campaign, it'd be cool to do levels 1-5 prior to the Overwatch we know from the video game, and have it be a time skip. It would be sweeeeeeet.
Well below is the stats of our beloved Tracer! Let me know what you think in that comment box below and tell me which character you'd like to see created next!

Fun fact! Tracer is the first character I designed for the "Create the Chracter" series, but with the timing of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Injustice 2, I just couldn't resist doing Rocket and Batman!
I'm very happy with how Tracer turned out, she looks like a ton of fun to play! If you have a character in mind that you think would be a lot of fun to play, send them my way and I'll make them in Otherworlds. :)
As always take care,
