Hello boys, ghouls, and other creepsters (no hipsters welcome)! Welcome to our first of many Into The Black Tides Tuesdays.
Today, we will be covering the destoka! That's pronounced des-TOE-kah. You really need to emphasize that “toe” sound, as some people get a kick out of it, like Livanold.
Something's Watching Me
Ever have that eerie feeling of something watching you? The paranoia that sets in, sending shivers down your spine, while the hairs on the back of your neck stand up like a cat that's just witnessed a dog who's extremely racist against their entire species! Insane stuff, right? We have all been there. What if I told you you weren't alone, but instead of me being there for you, it was a spirit?
And this spirit isn't friendly. It ain't no Casper, it's a spirit that wants to jack you up.
In a roundabout way, that's what a destoka is. A spirit comprised of one or many souls, bound to this realm by its strong desire to haunt for one reason or another.
Of course, this doesn't mean that all destoka are bad or mean ill-will, similar to how breaking your leg sometimes, maybe, doesn't hurt.
Now, bound to this mortal coil due to some nagging reason in the back of their ectoplasm-filled noggins, these ghoulish ghosties walk around wreaking all sorts of havoc. Not all Destoka are created equally, however, no sir-ee – some pick up odd jobs as adventurers, merchants, pirates, or even *gasp* accountants. Just think about that the next time you need to get your taxes done. It's already scary enough without ghosts involved!
Do The Haunting
The cool part of all this is that in Otherworlds, you won't be the one being tormented and haunted. Instead, YOU get to be the haunter. With the ability to fly, haunt people's dreams, phase through walls, and resist physical damage, you'll be scaring the pants off of anything that wears pants!
Ghosts Wear Armor Too!
If you don't want to be a traditional spirit, there are plenty of other options as well. One such option is the Haunted Armor, which allows you to become a spirit bound to armor. You trade off some of your ghostly abilities for your Sunday best! It's a win/lose for you to your enemies, so you're happy at least.
If that doesn't suit you (pun totally intended), go for the Tortured Soul! A geist so tortured, it only lives to torment others! The neat thing is the worse you're off, the worse off your enemies will be. The Tortured Soul is the only race that benefits from having low stats, completely changing the way the game is played.
Don’t Stop Believin’
You know those stories that get passed down from generation to generation about horrific monstrosities that love nothing more than to see you squirm while they pluck your limbs off? When people buy into such stories, they are adding fuel to the phantom fire, if you will. The Thoughtbound destoka are malicious manifestations of these tantalizing tales, brought to life by the very people that believe so whole-heartedly in them.
Since I can see you aren’t one for buying into ghost stories, let me give you just one more destoka to reflect upon. Yep, I’m talking about the Shardwraith! This mirror-hopping, glass-scarred revenant uses reflective surfaces to teleport. One second you’re staring into the mirror brushing your teeth and the next, Freddy Krueger’s ugly cousin is nose to nose with you, giving you dental hygiene tips. Just don’t forget to floss!
Geist I'll See You Next Time!
